~A Year in Review–2010 is Behind Us!!!~

It so hard to believe that we are entering the second decade of the 21st century…it sure makes me feel old!  This year had many events that propelled us through to where we are today.  Overall it was a mostly positive year for us as a family…even though it had a rocky start!

January brought us a health scare for Ethan…we were sure we were headed for multiple surgeries.  It was scary because Randy was in Edmonton still going to school and Ethan and I were by ourselves.  He was having lots of issues eating and was choking on almost everything he ate.  It was so scary to be the only person there for him…Despite the scary time we got to the end of January and Randy was back home with us again.

February brought with it lots of family fun!  I discovered some awesome craft blogs and took up making some fun crafts…they took awhile but I got some done!  We took out our fun Snowman Kit and made a stunning snowman!  Ethan started playing more and had a fun play date with his cousin Cole!  Those two have so much fun together…I think we need to invite Cole over more often this year if they are still living close!  February also brought with it the surprise renovation of our kitchen… I was so heartbroken about the floor when we had to do it and now I hardly notice it!!!  It will probably stay like that for another year too…our kitchen likely won’t be done until 2012.  We are planning on doing our windows and siding this year;  since we’ve done so much to improve the efficiency of the house the windows are a noticeable problem now and we need to deal with it.  We’ll do it all ourselves of course but it will be some hard work!

February came to a close with some more family fun.  Ethan was eating chicken nuggets at McDonalds like a pro!  I remember being the crazy woman crying about it and phoning friends and family to brag.  It still makes me happy to remember it!

March was the BIG month for Ethan’s tests in Edmonton…he had a gastroscopy and a dilation surgery.  Thankfully everything came back as good.  We didn’t need to do the multiple surgeries that they had told us to prepare for…but it came with a warning;  his esophagus is far from perfect and he will have eating challenges throughout his life.  We also found out that Ethan is allergic to penicillin this month; my poor baby was completely COVERED in hives…you would almost cry to look at him!  I renewed my will to find a new job this month too!  It didn’t come this month but I sure tried!!!

April was when we put in our new furnace!  I was so excited about the new furnace and I’m loving the $65 gas bills this winter!!! Even though I seriously almost killed myself hauling it in the house!  Easter was much more fun this year with Ethan…he finally understood to look for the Easter Eggs!  I had lots of fun playing with my shelf decor this month and can you believe it?  Ethan turned 2 this month!!!

We had Ethan’s party on May 1st and had a great time!  Randy and I made his train cake and the Backyardigans theme was so fun!  I started planning my garden and decided to give our shed a facelift.  May was mostly a planning month for us…planning all the stuff we wanted to tackle in the summer.  In the end my garden bombed;  thankfully most peoples’ gardens didn’t do well this year so I don’t think it was all me!

I spend June as a nervous wreck, doing interviews for Staples and Home Depot…we also made it for our first picnic of the summer to O’Brien Park. We made Fathers’ Day special for Randy and had a nice family day of it.  I had my BIG interview with Home Depot and also got some fantastic dental work done!!!  I had to wait what seemed like FOREVER to get an answer from Home Depot…thankfully I started my holidays at the same time!!!

July was the BEST month of 2010 for me!!!  On top of getting my DREAM JOB, I had three weeks of vacation too!  I spent two weeks of the time visiting and driving around Alberta.  We also continued with the basement renos that Randy started earlier in the year…We had our Annual Strawberry Picking Trip to Dunvegan Gardens and had a great time again!  I decorated my shelf again!!!

August brought with it our new life as we know it now!  I started my new job at the end of July and fell head over heels in love with it!  We made jam and pickled Jalapeños this month too…we had fun picking the berries and worked as a team to make the jam too!  I posted a ton of cute pictures from the Tiki Party that Ethan and I went to in Hanna;  we had such an AWESOME visit with Melissa and her family while there!  Unfortunately Ethan had some issues this month and we ended up in the hospital for the weekend.  It was scary and they almost airlifted us to Edmonton but in the end we stayed here in GP.

September was all about the end of our summer…I finally posted the picture of my Shed that I painted in May, and talked about how pathetic my plants were…I did the Big Bike for Heart & Stroke with work and thought I was going to die afterwards…Randy’s Birthday was the 18th and we had a nice family night.  We also had our Family Photo Shoot this month with Sheena Heaton from Heaton’s Photography.

October was all about Halloween at our house!  Decorations, Costumes, Food for parties…it was a fun month!!!  We also got one step closer to being able to use our basement!!!

November we got to see our pictures from our family photo shoot!  Wow is all I can say;  I absolutely LOVED them!  We moved our fun stuff to the basement this month and also saved some money blowing in our attic insulation ourselves!

December has been fun all around!  We decorated the house, had a Christmas Party at work and did our annual Gingerbread House decorating…I had time off for Christmas and found out that I now get 3 weeks vacation a year!!!  We went home and spent time with our Mom’s for Christmas and got in some shopping in Edmonton too.  It was a good time and I’m happy to have had the time to spend with family and friends during this time.

I am very excited to see what 2011 will bring for us…We have lots of plans to improve our house as well as possibly taking a fun trip to California  this summer to visit family there.  We shall see what the year brings…so from our family to yours…all the best and brightest for you and those that you love for 2011.
