~Overcommitted~

Yup.  Shocker eh?  Like you didn’t see that coming when you got my Christmas newsletter…I’ve got an insane work schedule, my University course, music lessons for Ethan, swimming lessons for Ethan, Yoga for me, parenting classes for Ethan’s PUF program, Randy’s 3rd Year Sheet metal challenge test, Randy’s 2 jobs, and then the usual life stuff and trying to be a good Mom and Dad.

But I’m good.  I’ve gotten to a point where it’s okay to leave the dishes overnight, the floors dirty for one day and spend extra time at the Multiplex hanging with my boys.  The Yoga is helping, as are the books I’m reading…I’ve finished Roses the other day.  My friend Chantel recommended it and it was amazing!  Now I’ve moved on to a new Jen Lancaster book…always good for a laugh!

In two weeks Randy will be done his second job and will be writing his exam this month so that will take off a lot of stress.  I only have 2 classes for Ethans’ school this month so that helps too.  My University course really just starts this week so I will be committing more time to it for the next few months to try to get it done early.

On the flip side we fired our housecleaners this week…they weren’t doing as great as a job as I would expect for what I was paying.  All that means is now I’m cleaning again…so I’ve got to fit that in.  I’m not sure if I’ll get another cleaner right away…probably will later this summer when I’m hopefully 6 months preggo and not wanting to clean!

We started trying for baby number 2 this month…I’ll keep you posted when I know for sure!  I’m hoping for an easy time getting pregnant but I don’t want to get my hopes up!  We’re ready, Ethan’s ready.  It’s time.  Anyhow, just a rambly post about nothing…heading off to bed, have a great one!

Nasty, cold, wet snow!  My poor tree took a hit with the weight of the snow also!  Not the best picture because let’s face it, I wasn’t going outside to take it, and I got glare off the window.  But there is a huge branch off my big tree in my front yard down from the weight of the snow.

We’re supposed to get more snow today so I hope my tree doesn’t suffer too much more damage from it!  I’m sure glad I’m working this weekend, it would sure suck to have to cancel all our weekend plans because of this!

~How to Not Do Mothers' Day, Part I~

How to not do Mothers Day:

Do not be the first one up at 6am to take the small child out of bed.
Don't make the coffee.
Don't make your own breakfast.
Don't go into work when other managers without children could work.
Don't go home for lunch to find everyone sleeping and no lunch made.
Don't come home to no supper ready.
Don't come home to a filthy dirty house.
Don't make supper, feed small child, clean up after supper.
Don't clean up the whole house.
Don't do the bedtime routine with small child.
Don't do yard work because someone else didn't.
Don't go to bed without being told "Thank you for being a great Mom" from someone significant in your life.
Yeah, don't do it that way...

I'm not either, I demanded a redo. So next Sunday is Mothers' Day for me. And we (as in my family) are going to do it better this time...or else.

(I should edit to add that Randy is sick. He has been sick nonstop for the last month and just spent the weekend on the couch. So the problem was not that he forgot, he didn't, it was that he was too sick to make it a special day for me. So he's promised me a redo for next weekend to make up for it...which works good for me too because then I'm not working!)

~Ethan’s PJ Party~

Ethan has been very sick this last week with an ear infection which meant that I missed two days from work to stay home and nurse him.  The poor little guy was just miserable!  Of course I loved him up and we cuddled and hung out in our PJ’s and watched way too much TV!  Here are some pics of him from the last few days at home!

He seems to be on the mend now but still has a nasty cough.  He can’t play too hard or he starts coughing like an 80 year old smoker!  But now I’m back to work for Thursday and Friday and then off for the whole weekend!  I can’t wait!  Even though I’ve been off for the last three days to take care of him they sure didn’t feel like days off!  I’m hoping to do some fun things this weekend and get some cleaning done.  Randy works Saturday but we will all have Sunday together!  Hope you all have a great weekend too!

~Home Renos, On the Fly….literally…~

Well we decided to buy a pantry for our kitchen this weekend.  They were $70 off!  Anyhow, we picked one up on Saturday afternoon and made it that evening.  It was too late to install it on Saturday night so we left it in the living room over night.  Big mistake!

It was wobbly of course and I kept telling Ethan to leave it alone in the morning.  He of course, ignored me and carried on.  It fell on him of course.  I jumped up screaming for Randy and threw it off him.  It was one of the most terrifying things I have ever had happen to me.  I’m not kidding.  I grabbed him up and sat and bawled my head off and shook for almost an hour afterwards.  He was okay, just a few bumps and bruises from it but it still was not something I would ever want to have happen again.  It was a stupid mistake on my part to not have it up against a wall instead of in the middle of the floor.  I learned that lesson…

Anyhow, Randy was up then because of all the banging and screaming so we decided to get the day going.  (He thought that someone had broke in and was attacking us, that’s how loud it all was)  We had breakfast and then Randy started doing demo of the desk in our kitchen.

This was the before picture of the side of our kitchen:

IMG_5373_1228We took out the desk part in the middle and kept the bank of drawers.  The plan was simply actually.  Remove the desk, move over the cabinet the microwave was on, move the fridge over and insert the pantry at the end of the run.  So Randy cuts out the desk and proceeds to try to move the cabinet over.  Of course all the screws were stripped that held the cabinet into the wall.  That made Randys’ day I tell you!  So he basically had to pull the screws out of the wall instead of undoing them.  As he finally pulls up the cabinet, up with it comes the vinyl.  Of course!  Anyhow that’s when this problem became apparent:

Oh yes, that is moldy, bug infested floor in my kitchen!!!  Hells no was that going to stay!!!  So out comes the skill saw and up comes a huge chunk of my kitchen floor.  So about 6 hours later of cleaning, bleaching, and then repairing and tiling, we ended up with this:

IMG_5392_1141 So you can see we added the panty on the end of the run along that wall.  If works and my recycling bin still fits on the end too!  I’m definitely going to get some magnetic paint and do the end of the pantry because it will work as an awesome message center for us!

You can kind of see the patch job we had to do on the floor in the last picture but in this one you can see how stupid it is:

IMG_5395_1144

We’re not that worried about it though.  It is fixed and that is all that matters.  We want to redo the kitchen in the next few years anyhow so we didn’t want to go and spend a lot of money fixing it.

So that was the kitchen redo.  As for the flies?  They are D.E.A.D now…
