~Basement Renos Part 2!~

Well the basement is getting there!  Slowly as we have money we are getting it updated to our tastes.  So the work has included finishing the bedroom and closets in the hall so far and walling off an entrance to the furnace room.

Then last weekend we decided to get the insulation and poly up on the main area of the basement.  So while I worked Randy took down all the wall boards and got everything ready to go.  I was put in charge of hauling crap out of the basement.  Joy oh bliss!

Once that was done we put in the new insulation and threw some plastic over top.  It’s starting to come together now!  Next step (and hopefully next month) is to drywall the whole basement.  We have someone hired already to do the mudding and taping.

It’s just time for me to pick out the color now…not sure what color to paint a basement with!  I’m leaning towards something in the brown or  gray family…we’ll see!

Here are the pics of the basement at this stage:  The picture on the left is of where the bar used to be.  I totally tore it out, mirrored backsplash and all!  We decided to not build in another bar but we are going to build shelves in the bar area and around the corner where the plumbing is for a library type area.

It looks rough right now but drywall, fresh paint and some furniture and it will be a great family room for us!  Hopefully next year I can afford the carpet and get rid of the 70s shag type carpet!

I’m making Ethan a playroom in one corner of the basement, Randy’s desk will go on the other corner and the TV area across from the foot of the stairs.  I will probably have to move my scrapbook room downstairs in the next couple of years when baby # 2 joins us but that is a ways off still!

I’m really excited to get it all done and have a fun family area for us!
