~ Our New Furnace!~

I swear I’m the only person that would be as excited about a new furnace as I am.  We have been planning on putting a new furnace in since the minute we moved in.  The original 32 year old furnace was still in the house.  Not very efficient at all!  We got our tax return and decided that it would be best put to use by investing in a new furnace.  We put in a 92% High Efficient Dual stage variable motor Tempstar furnace which will save us hundreds of dollars next winter!  It is so quiet and keeps the house at a constant temperature.  What is even better is that it is almost free!

We had our Energy Audit done on our house right after we moved in and our house rated as 59% efficient.  Most houses of our houses’ age rate at 60% so we’re not that far off the mark.  If we implement all the changes that they told us about we can achieve 78% and receive federal grants of up to $6500.  So for this furnace we will get back $1125 and we spent around $1690.  I know that we will make up the difference on our bills very quickly next winter.  Randy estimates that we will save about $75 a month on our gas bill and around $50 on our electricity bill.  I hope he’s right but I will have to wait until next winter to see the real effect!

Anyhow I helped Randy haul out our old furnace and bring in our new one.  Taking out the old one was fine once we decided to use the dolly to lift it out.  I couldn’t lift it because it was way to heavy for me to pull up the stairs.  So then we brought the new one down.  It wasn’t going to bad until I got to the bottom and missed a step…I fell face first into a two by four wall then dropped the furnace and slammed my whole right side into the same wall before falling to the floor.  Yup, not my most gracious landing!  I am full of bruises and the furnace ended up with a little dent.  Thankfully Randy was able to bend it back!  I will live but I’m sure sore!

Anyhow, what would a post be without pictures of the new furnace!?!  I just can’t get over how nice it is!  It’s the size of a beer fridge and shiny stainless steel!
