~Jasper 2011~

We took off last weekend to Jasper for a quick trip.  Since we didn’t get to go camping this year we decided to hotel it and have an escape.  We left on the Saturday morning and went straight to Jasper.  After a bite to eat in town we headed to Pyramid Lake for the afternoon.  We walked over to the island on the bridge and threw rocks there for awhile before taking a drive to the beach area and hanging out.  Ethan and Randy played in the water and I sat on the sidelines watching.  The stress of work literally melted off while I sat there.  Mountains, water, sunshine, the people I love in my life…how could it not?

We left the lake late in the afternoon and decided to drive to Athabasca Falls.  If you’ve never seen the falls you need to make the trip!!!  Randy and I have been there a few times before and each time it catches my breath!  Absolutely stunning!  Ethan loved the sound of the water and all the bridges and stairs to climb around on.

We headed back to Jasper for a yummy supper of Rainbow trout for Randy and I and pizza for Ethan after that.  We did a little shopping on the main street and bought Ethan a T-shirt and some sporks for his lunch before heading out to Hinton for the night.  I had scored a great room for a great rate for the night…What I didn’t realize was really how far Hinton was from Jasper…The original plan was to head back to Jasper on Sunday for the day before heading for home but in the end we decided to head home from Hinton.  It was going to be just too much driving and we wouldn’t have much time for anything.  So we had a great free breakfast in the morning at the hotel before heading out.

We stopped at Walmart in Hinton and grabbed some beach toys and towels and headed to Pierre’s Grey Lakes.  We had planned on camping here earlier in the summer but we all know how that panned out…so we decided to stop on our way home to check it out.  What a GORGEOUS set of lakes!!!  I wanted a canoe and a fishing pole right then!  They had a walking path out to an island that we took.  it turned out the path onto the island was under water because the lake was so high but it was a nice walk out and Ethan loved the ‘bridge’.  They also had a great play park there so we hung out there for about an hour and let Ethan have some fun.  Again, it was just nice to sit back, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.

We left the lakes after driving around and checking them all out and headed North.  We stopped in Grande Cache for lunch and headed for Musreau Lake just outside of Grande Prairie.  When we got there (our first time here) it was PACKED!  There is a nice beach and swimming area with restrooms close by.  We took our newly purchased beach toys and towels and headed down.  It was about 25 degrees, blistering sun…but so, so nice!  We sat on the beach and let Ethan play in the sand and water for a couple hours before hunger took over and we decided to head for home.  It’s only half an hour from GP so we will definitely be visiting the lake again!

It was a great weekend.  We are so lucky to live so close to such beautiful natural places.  All free for us to enjoy.  We all came home tired out from all the fresh air, sunshine and playing but I was so relaxed I didn’t mind being tired.  It was just what I needed.  I’m so looking forward to next summer already.  We’ve decided to put our RV on the lake at Moberly Lake by Chetwynd, BC for June and July.  That way we can sneak off every weekend and enjoy the great outdoors.  I may even buy a canoe.  And a fishing pole.
