So when I heard of Elf on a ShelfI was thrilled to start a new family tradition. I bought him last year and we named him Marvin. He came to visit a few times last year but this year I wanted to make sure he was a big part of December. He dropped in for a visit on Dec 1st to remind Ethan that he needed to do his music class homework and followed up the next day by reminding him to practice on the keyboard. Since then he's zip lined to toilet paper the tree, gotten tied up and left a trail in the front yard.
I've tied it all in to the new parenting strategy of evaluating choices with Ethan and having him take responsibility for his own actions. It has had huge pay offs...Ethan is totally smitten with Marvin and borderline paranoid about Santa hearing about him making bad choices...well played Mom and Marvin! He even made up a song today on the drive home from music class about making good choices and having fun and making bad choices and losing fun things like the IPad...it was priceless.
Anyhow, here are some pics of Marvin up to his antics...I'm uploading them daily to Facebook if you want to see them all.

Marvin with everything for music class home work!

Reminding Ethan to practice.

With a spotlight on a message about not touching the advent calendar without permission...

Stuck on his candy cane zip line from toilet papering the tree...

Marvin did some art on our family pictures...pesky elf!

Marvin got into Moms favourite chocolates and Ethan's Teddy bears caught him and tied him up!
Tonight I see Marvin is involved in a heavy game of Candyland with Buzz light year and the gang...Ethan will love that!
Such a fun family tradition, one that many of our friends and family are doing as well, it's so fun to see what all the elves are up to!
I'll be sad to see him go after Christmas but maybe I'll get organized like my friend Chantel and have him pop in for a visit in July...I might have to get her to remind me!
