I’ve been doing a lot of self help, self development stuff lately. Some issues at work have made me realize that I have some things in myself that I need to work on. So I’ve been doing some reading, talking with my EAP and trying some new things to help me to change. It is very personal so I’m not diving into it but I wanted to share the one thing that I’m trying that I’m finding to be so helpful!
Every day I journal a small little bit about my day. Then I take a couple of minutes to reflect on things that I am grateful for that happened that day. I shoot for a minimum of 3 things a day…sometimes there are many more! What I’ve found is that it is helping to change my perspective throughout the day as I have to look for things to be grateful for in my day. Its not a unique or new idea…it’s something that many people talk about. Oprah has gone on about it on her show for years. But I just started it…and I like it.
Here are some of the things that have ended up on my grateful list:
-Talking to friends (Melissa and Mike P)
-Ethan listening to me (about limitations on using the Ipad)
-day off to hang with Ethan tomorrow –we’re going swimming!
-Ethan got to do a Kids' Workshop with Daddy today and build a piggy bank – he’s learning new skills!
-The Multiplex – its’ awesome (for the record it’s on my grats list at least once a week!)
-The Dr telling me that I look like I’ve lost weight – don’t know if it’s true & don’t care!
-My new spinbrush – it’s da bomb!
-Ethan did so good in swimming class today! I was so proud I had tears!
-Breakfast this am and clean up by Randy
-Playing Go Fish with Ethan and Daddy
-Staying in my PJ’s all day
Some times its really, really meaningful…other times it’s just something that made me smile. All in all I love that I can look back on these lists and reflect on how lucky I am and how much I have in my life to be grateful for. This one thing has certainly opened a more positive view into my life!
