~The Making of Baby Food~

Since Ethan is still having trouble eating I am still feeding him pretty much pureed food. We don't like how baby food smells (it smells like preservatives to me) and I want him to eat what we eat, so I make his food. I picked up this book before he was born and have used it mostly as a reference since making his food. I haven't actually made an exact recipe from here (other then basic purees but I didn't need a cookbook for that, LOL!)but I have used the book to get great ideas on the types of things he can eat that won't upset his tummy too much or that he wouldn't have a hard time digesting.

So when I make his food I start out by cooking whichever meat I'm going to make for him and once it is seared I add in lots of veggies and an organic vegetable broth. I let it cook down until the veggies are soft and the meat is cooked through.

So far I've made him mostly chicken breast for meat but last weekend he had beef tenderloin...mmmm. I usually always add onions, yams, peas, spinach, carrots to it and then if I have them I'll add green and yellow beans, corn, broccoli, zucchini...you name it, it goes in! He is a huge LOVER of yam/sweet potato, and HATES regualr white potatoes.

So I cook some of his food and steam some veggies for just a simple vegetable choice and end up at this stage. I use my ever-so-handy-I-love-to-death mini Kitchenaid food processor and puree the food in batches using leftover veggie broth.

After it's pureed it goes into my baby cubes and whatever other container I need to freeze them in. Lately I've been using ice cube trays and freezing cubes of food and them putting them in freezer ziploc bags. It works out easier to take to daycare for him.

Once the food is cooked, pureed and put away I'm left with this:

Yup, I'm so grateful for my dishwasher...it is this Mommy's salvation!

So I hope you've enjoyed seeing Ethan's food being made. I can't say that I hate doing it but I won't be sad when I'm done with it either. I make his food about once every week and a half and it takes a few hours. Good thing I love that little guy!!!
