So we headed to Edmonton on the 9th to meet up with Ethans' surgeon on the 10th for his follow up appointment. It was, as we knew it would be, an almost waste of our time and money. We literally drove for a 10 hour round trip drive for the surgeon to look at Ethans' incision and say "He looks great, see you at 18 months!" and that was it! Well...we did talk for a few minutes about what to watch for when he starts on solids and what the signs are of a problem and stuff like that, but basically we already had that information. So it was pretty much a waste. He's a nice guy though and told us that for his 6 month and year checkups he can be seen by our local neonatologist and then he'll have us back at 18 months to see him so that we don't have to be driving into the city all the time. So that was good news.
We just hung out at Mike's house until Thursday when our friend Jess drove up from Calgary. Then we loaded Ethan's carseat into her car, jam-packed it with all our stuff and her, Ethan and I headed for Grande Prairie, Randy went to his Mom's house. A huge thanks to Mike for letting us crash at his house again!!!
Jess and I had a great weekend. We ate, and ate more and ate even more yet! Literally! But it was things like homemade bruscetta, spinach and strawberry salad, sugar snap peas, roasted garlic and brie and steak...Mostly good for us...(just won't talk about the pie, and two quarts of ice cream) Can we help that Safeway had raspberrys on for $1.49 a container and we love them with ice cream? Mmmmmmmmm! We also watched lots of movies, went to a sidewalk sale downtown and caught some REALLY good dancing on the main street (didn't we Jess?) It was a fun, non-demanding weekend. Perfect. I'm so sick of company that it was nice to have Jess...she is really just all about lazing about...it was a weekend off for her afterall! It wasn't without excitement for her though. The day before she left a fire extinguisher got set off in the back room of the clothing store that she manages which she had to clean up, she got nailed with a speeding ticket on her way to Edmonton, and witnessed some serious road rage in Edmonton where a guy got out of his car at a light and started punching the guy in the vehicle in front of him. Welcome to the hood apparently! Anyhow, thanks Jess for a totally FANTASTIC weekend, Ethan already misses his talented and beautiful Auntie!
Randy in the meantime was at his Moms' until Friday. He went through his Mom's house and gathered up some of our things that remained there from when we were on the road and used her upstairs as storage. Plus he found all his things from when he was a kid: a set of Dr Suess books, set of Serendipity books (never heard of them before this but they rock!!!) and some stuffed animals and his blankie. Totally fun stuff for us to now share with Ethan. Then on Friday he headed to Calgary and went and had Vietnamese food(insert bad name for Randy here) at our favorite restaurant (another bad word here for not bringing me any!) He stayed at my sister Helen's house that night (THANKS!) and then on Saturday morning my nephew Shane and him loaded all of our stuff from storage into a friends trailer! Then he headed for home.
He got home late Saturday night and so we just hung out and watched a movie. On Sunday we had a BBQ and my Mom and sister Mary and nephew Cole stopped by for a quick visit.
The trailer with all our stuff arrived on Monday. YAY all my stuff is now here!!! My fantastic friend Jess helped us unload some and then took care of Ethan for me while we unloaded the rest because he woke up half way through. Our place was a disaster! We've spent the last three days cleaning and organizing and trying to find room for all our crappola! Oh yes, there is a garage sale happening here in the not so distant future! I'm looking at three weeks away so if you're in the area and want to sell some crap, bring it by! Aside from the basement that is crammed with stuff that we can't use here; our washer and dryer set, all of Randy's tools that we need a garage for, and winter and summer sports stuff; our house is starting to look really good! I got all my knick knacks unpacked and am just deciding where they will all go but I am loving having all my stuff here!
Also on Monday both Jess and I realized that neither one of us had taken out our camera the whole weekend! Silly us! So I have no proof of her visit (and there is no actual proof of the copious amounts of food we ate either, LOL!) Actually I have almost no pictures from the last two weeks. My battery died in the camera when we got to Edmonton and I just charged it on Monday. So I really need to get better at that! I want to do a family shoot here really soon so keep checking for those!
Onto other family news...Randy is waiting to hear back if he got a job for an Operations Manager with the company that does all the service type work at the airport here. They do the baggage, direct the planes in, re-fuel, clean the planes, organize the food...all that kind of stuff. It is a KICK-ASS job and I really, really, really want him to get it. It would be so up his alley, something that I think he would really like. The salary is great, it comes with extended health benefits, an RRSP program, a M-Fri 9-5 kind of schedule, and the best part...flight discounts!!! I know, I may swoon....Me...like to travel? Naw! Like to travel cheap? Oh yeah baby!!! I'm in! But in all honesty the most important thing is that I think it is something that he will like. So please, please send up a prayer that he gets it. It all looks good and we are confident that the job is his but he has to wait till early next week to find out. Ugghhh I hate waiting! Anyhow, pray that he gets it, would ya?
What else do I know? Mom headed home to Hardisty this week, she thought she'd better head back before everyone forgets here there. She's been here with us for over a month already. Even though my sister Mary hogged her at her house all the time...between her and BINGO I hardly saw her, sniff, sniff! Oh well, hopefully that will be different this fall when she comes back for another month long visit. She can stay at MY house this time! I'll hog her!
Well I suppose that should be enough about my last two weeks. I know you just really want to see pictures of my adorable son so here you go!
Any guesses as to where Ethan likes to sleep? Oh yes, that is anywhere we are! Our arms, our bed, beside us....little turkey will only sleep in his crib from like midnight till 6am then he won't sleep there anymore, he wants to be near us! I'm slowly changing it, I don't want it to be a habit! Anyhow, I'll post more pics another day, I'm beat and I have some scrapping to do tomorrow for my sister so I need to get to bed!
