~I'm Online!!!~

So I got online tonight. After a week of fighting with Telus to get a connection to the house period...they finally sent a tech today and guess what? There was no connection into the house...Duh! So they sent a guy up the pole, connected a wire and we were online. WOW! Imagine how that works! So we were online with the desktop computer right after that. So then I decide to connect my laptop...wirelessly. Okay, I'm not stupid when it comes to computers. I have no problem setting up my own network etc. Well because of all the stupidness of connecting since we've been here, the file that contained the WEP key didn't save to the main computer. (Excuse the techie talk, necessary for this oh-so-frustrating-story) So I tried to find it but it wasn't where it should have been so I called Telus support and had a lady walk me through finding it. She decided that we should change from a WEP 128Bit Encryption to a WEP64 because then I could set a shorter WEP # easier to remember. Like I cared!?!? Anyhow so she has me change a whack load of settings etc and it seems to be acting like its working so I let her go. So I go on the laptop, connect to the network and have no connectivity. So I fart around with it a bit but I knew I was out of my league so I called Telus again. I knew it was something with the settings she had me change because I had changed nothing on the laptop and I was online with it wirelessly this morning and it worked fine.

So I get a different person, of course, and after I explain myself for like the 5078th time he gets me to start making changes to settings on the laptop. I knew he was wrong but I just remembered everything we were changing just in case. Well long story short after farting around for half an hour my laptop I had no connection to the network at all so he decides that my laptop wireless connection is broken and that I need to take it in for service. I knew it wasn't, I'd just used it a couple of hours before and had a connection before he started with it so I just said okay and hung up.

So I changed back everything he changed, restarted my laptop and went back to the main computer into the area that the original lady had me making changes. What do I find? One area that still was set up with a WEP 128 Bit Encryption. So I changed it to a 64 Bit and VOILA! It works. Sooooo glad I wasted all that time talking to that guy that is being paid WAY to much money and doesn't have a freaking clue what he's doing.

So sorry for the long drawn out drama queen story but can you tell how freaking frustrated I am with Telus? So I'll be calling them on Monday and getting a free months service out of them for all the hassle. The landlord is going to be thrilled to...I'm sure that Telus won't send a guy out to climb a pole on a Saturday afternoon to run a line to your house for free...Oh well, not my fault they didn't have it connected already.

I'm not tacking connecting the printer till Monday or Tuesday when Randy isn't home. A couple of reasons for that: a)I won't interrupt him playing his game, and b)he won't interrupt me or infuriate me trying to help. It is also wireless so it could be just as much fun. I'm going to redo the encryption to a 128 Bit so that it is more secure. The Telus lady of course tried to tell me that 64 bit was just as secure...I'm not stupid...so it will be changed.

Next problem on the list is our satellite receiver. It keeps restarting. Over and over again for no apparent reason. So I think we still have warranty so I'll be calling them to figure that one out. Maybe this house is possessed with something adverse to technology...

Aside from that fun, we've settled in here nicely. I still have to unpack the scrapping room. Gonna go start it tonight and finish up tomorrow. Now that I have internet I need to do my 8 on the 8th page and get it posted. I'm a few days late but it doesn't matter to me...just as long as I do it. I got my scrapbooking kit finally yesterday (I thought it was lost, I got it faster in Ft Nelson!) it's not my favorite but there is stuff in it that I can use and other then that I'll just give it to one of my sisters or something.

Pictures will be forthcoming. I need to just finish with the cleaning/organizing of all our stuff and then I'll take some pics. It's a bit difficult right now because most of our furniture is in Calgary in storage. Kitchen table and chairs, headboard and nightstands, shelving and storage items...makes it kind of hard to get stuff organized without it all. I can't wait till all our junk is all together again!!! Well I should go, I'm sure I've bored you all with all my techie problems...just wanted you to know why I was absent for so long...
