Since I have to watch my salt intake very carefully because of my high blood pressure I don't like buying pre-packaged seasoning mixes very often. That's why Epicure Selections products are a favorite of mine. My biggest problem with Epicure is that their taco mix is too bland for us. So tonight I went to my favorite recipe site: http://www.allrecipes.com/ and searched for Taco Seasoning and found this awesome recipe:
Taco Seasoning I
Submitted by: Bill Echols
1 Tblsp of chili powder
1/4 tsp of garlic powder
1/4 tsp of onion powder
1/4 tsp of crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp paprika
1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp of sea salt
1 tsp of black pepper
I omitted the salt, used smoked paprika (Epicure) and was generous with the cumin. I added it to my beef with about a 1/4 cup of water and let it simmer just like you would with a package. It was soooo good! A definate keeper! I like that I can control the amounts to adjust the spiciness of it, and an extra bonus is that I always have all these spices on hand so I can whip it up very quickly and easily! I can see why this recipe had 5 out of 5 stars by 609 reviewers!!!
